2018: A Look At the Future of LEDs

Ford recently unveiled its first ever pursuit-rated police vehicle, the Ford F-150 Police Responder. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged V6 with 375 horsepower and a top speed of 100 mph, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and part time four-wheel-drive. And the crown atop this awesome F-150? Some sweet LED police lights. Innovation in the LED lighting industry means something new every year, and the 2018 models will be no exception. Here are a few more newsworthy LED innovations to look forward to in the 2018 models.

2018 Jeep Wrangler
“The first part is the new interior and exterior lighting features of the JL Wrangler. We’ve already seen several JL Unlimited prototype vehicles sporting new LED headlights and LED turn signals which have been relocated to the front fenders. We have now verified that the JL Wrangler will also receive an abundance of LED lighting throughout the exterior and interior.

Included in the new lighting features are daytime running lamps with LED accents, LED fog lamps, LED reflector headlamps and LED tail lamps. This should dramatically increase lighting performance and safety and save Wrangler owners a few bucks on having to turn to the aftermarket for LED lighting solutions. On the inside, the next generation Wrangler will receive ambient LED lighting and illuminated cupholders, both a first for the Jeep Wrangler.”

2018 Audi A5
“Ahead of its time, Audi made LED lighting a style statement. It not only changed the way you see the road, it changed the way others see you. Standard on the all-new Audi A5, xenon plus headlights and LED daytime running lights help give a bright view of the road and act as the nexus of the wave-design Shoulder line.

A unique four-cluster design and precisely contoured LED daytime running lights provide the Audi A5 with a distinctive light signature. Available LED headlights also simulate daylight-like brightness with a color production of 5,500K. The light from LEDs can be more similar to daylight than halogen or xenon, which helps make it easier on your eyes. LEDs also consume less energy and can last longer than conventional bulbs.”

2018 Buick Enclave Avenir
“The brand specifically has made a pretty big deal about its Evonik Acrylite lighting technology. It’s a first for Buick and it amps up Buick’s signature winged lighting to a new level. Specifically, 100 LEDs across the vehicle benefit from the compound curvature application.

The Evonik Arylite technology is also paired with bi-functional LED projector headlamps, which not only improve visibility, but also automatically switch the high beams on and off. It’s not exclusive to the posh Avenir either. The Acrylite lighting can be found on each Enclave trim — base, Essence and Premium.”

2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Light-Duty Pickup Truck
“Sierra’s expertly crafted body and premium appointments form a striking appearance. The front appearance with stunning GMC Signature LED lighting and available features such as High Performance LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, and Thin Profile LED fog lamps further its bold and advanced design.

It’s the little things that set the Sierra 1500 light-duty pickup truck apart. That’s abundantly clear with lighting features such as available LED Cargo Box Lighting and IntelliBeam technology automatically turns high-beam headlamps on and off according to surrounding traffic conditions.”
